***2010 Recital Information***

As you all know, June 19 is our annual recital.  The recital will take place at Norwin Middle School and will begin promptly at 7:00pm.  Dancers must arrive and report directly to the dressing rooms by 6:15.  Hair and makeup should be done prior to arrival.  Costumes must be transported neatly in a garment bag.  Shoes and tights are listed for each costume on the studio wall.  No underwear is to be worn with tights.  Also, no jewelry is to be worn, with the exception of the rhinestone show earrings.  If you do not have these earrings from previous years, please deposit $2.00 into the payment box and indicate whether you need clip-on or pierced.

Dress Rehearsal will take place on June 18 at 6:00pm.  Please arrive by 5:30 and get ready to rehearse the opening number.  We will be running through the opening number 3 times, as always.  After the 3rd run, the show will continue in the order it will be performed at the recital.  Students may watch the dances from the auditorium, but please be aware of the numbers being performed.  You will need to be backstage at least 5 numbers prior to your routine.  The stage crew will not be searching for you if you are not back in time to perform!  Also, please note: students may not enter auditorium in costume the night of the recital!  After your last routine is performed, you may leave the rehearsal.  We will also run through “Curtain Call” prior to rehearsing the opening number.  “Curtain Call” will take place at the recital following the finale performance.  All dancers will line up with their designated classes backstage for one final bow.  The Senior Elite will assist each group onto the stage immediately following the finale.  Again, we will do a run-through prior to the opening at Dress Rehearsal.

Several members of Dancin J’s Alumni will be present at both the Rehearsal & Recital.  They will be assisting backstage & in the dressing areas.  These ladies will be introduced and will be wearing a badge or wristband to indicate they are part of the crew.  Teachers will also be backstage to assist the dancers on & off stage.  Also, Kathy, the stage manager, will be lining up dancers in the order in which they will perform.

Ticket sales will begin June 1.  Tickets this year are the same as last year; Presale $6 (children) & $8 (adults).  At the door, tickets will be $7 & $9.  Seats are on a first come, first served basis.  NO ONE will be admitted without a ticket!  (With the exception of dancers, of course.)  It was brought to my attention that several people were attempting to enter without tickets last year.  Please understand that without ticket sales, we would not have the auditorium.  Ticket sales are what help to pay for the facility.

We have forms at the studio for patron ads in our recital programs.  Please take a few & try to get local businesses to sponsor our recital.  Ads are what allow us to distribute our programs for free.  Our ad prices are much more affordable than most, as well.  If you need to see some examples of ads, there are several programs from past recitals to view.

Opening costumes will be very simple, as usual.  All students (Except the Elite) will wear plain black ribbed tank tops & black Soffe brand shorts.  Kohl’s has Soffe shorts on sale a lot. But you can also find them at Dick’s & Natale’s.  Old Navy usually has the ribbed tanks on sale too.  I am making sequined wrist bands & belts which you will all need to purchase for $2 per set.  Each class will wear the tights which will be worn for their first class number for the opening.  For instance, if your first regular routine is ballet and you are wearing white tights, then white tights is what you will wear for the opening.  Also, on a side note, if you are required to wear two different colors/styles of tights for different costumes, here is a tip: ex-Wear suntan tights with white over top.  I once had to wear stirrup tights, footed tights, pink tights, and fishnets all in the same show.  So, I wore the stirrups throughout the show, then, just switched the others for the dance I was currently to perform.  It makes it a lot easier when you are sweaty from dancing all night.

ANNUAL SUNDAY OPENING REHEARSAL will take place on May 16 at 1:00pm.  Since enrollment has grown so much over the years, we will no longer be rehearsing at the studio.  This year, we are going to rehearse on the basketball courts at Sunset Valley Elementary.  This should last about an hour as long as everyone cooperates.  A group photo will be taken at the end of the rehearsal.  Also, all competitors will get a group photo with 2010 awards.  So, please bring trophies, metals, ribbons, etc…and mark your name on them if you want to get yours back.  Please also wear opening costumes & sneakers since we will be outside.

The makeup colors will be the same as last year.  Itsie Bitsies, Teenie Weenies, Teenie Tinies, Hip Hop Babies, & Minis will all wear Hi Ho Silver eye shadow by Jane Brand, black eyeliner, English Rose lipstick by N.Y.C., & a pinkish shade of blush (any brand).  These colors can be found at Target, Rite Aid, Giant Eagle, & Wal Mart.  Juniors, Teens, Seniors, & Elite classes will wear the above colors/brands in addition to Clubbin’ eyeshadow by Jane Brand.  Elite will also need rhinestone fake eyelashes.  Pictures will soon be posted on our website to show what the makeup should look like.

Hairstyles for the recital are as follows:
Itsie Bitsies, Teenie Weenies, Teenie Tinies, Hip Hop Babies, Minis will wear buns.
Juniors, Teens, Seniors will wear low ponytail with left side part.
Elite: TBD

Just a note, Dress Rehearsal is just that; you must DRESS in your costume, along with hair & show makeup.  Dress Rehearsal is to be treated like a show.  So, please come prepared with all costumes, tights, shoes, & makeup.

As always, if you have any questions, I can be reached via phone or email…
